Chocolade letters workshop

Creating the chocolate letters opens the new view on type when creating the letters in the third dimension. In this case, the students of the Visual communication department will not create the fonts but they will use their concentration into creating one plastic letter. Learning how to create letters in 3d space helps to realise the limitation of normal 2d letters, which are too boring when used with architecture or in the name of the shop above the shopwindow.
The workshop is based on the workshop I attended during Type and Media Master studies lead by Erik van Blockland at Royal academy of art (KABK). The result of the workshop is quite extraordinary and original. The tradition of giving this initial to the children on Saint Nicholas Day (Sinteklaas) and having this large letter in hand reminds you the power and tradition of Dutch typeface design and design in general.
